The McClatchy Company is partnering with Moonlighting, a digital job exchange that will be integrated into its 28 online and print properties across the U.S., Diana Marszalek reports. McClatchy has made an unspecified investment in the company, which raised seven figures in its last fundraising round and has about 30,000 users.
Further expanding its interest in emerging digital platforms, The McClatchy Co. is now partnering with Moonlighting, a two-way job exchange that links people offering short-term jobs and individuals who can do them.
Calling Moonlighting a “safe transaction platform,” Chris Hendricks, McClatchy’s VP of Interactive Media, says McClatchy is making both a financial and strategic investment in the Charlottesville, Va.-based company, which launched online and on mobile last October. He would not say how much money McClatchy is putting into Moonlighting.
“It’s the beginning of the Uberization of local services businesses,” Hendricks says. Leveraging the reach of local media can greatly boost Moonlighting’s success, and “it can attack the demand and supply sides,” he says.
