This past Wednesday was National Startup Day, and Moonlighting was honored to host U.S. Sen. Mark R. Warner at our headquarters for a roundtable discussion on the future of entrepreneurship and self-employment.
The primary topic was how to create a new government framework for addressing the growing contingency of contract workers and moonlighters in the new Gig Economy. With people now making good money through gig marketplaces like our Moonlighting App and through sharing networks like AirBnB, there is a general agreement that we need expanded categories of workers beyond 1099 and W2.
Small business owners, entrepreneurs, part-time moonlighters and others from the community brought up important issues from taxes to childcare. The room was also abuzz with folks from the media who covered the event. Check out these articles for more coverage and photos from the roundtable discussion!
