A few years ago, I found myself re-writing my resume for the umpteenth time in hopes of landing a new job. I was constantly disappointed that I couldn’t find any jobs that would allow me to do what I love, what I’m good at, and what I feel would make the greatest impact on the world. Months went by trying to do the “responsible” thing–getting that 9-5 job to pay the bills. I was able to find work, but it kept me from pursuing the things I loved doing and left me with little free time and little excitement for life.
That’s when I decided to turn the page, leave my 9-5 and do whatever it would take to live a life I could be proud of. I chose to take an inventory of everything I had: my tangible resources, my abilities & my experiences, but realized I needed to find a platform to display my talents and abilities so I could pursue a meaningful life through freelancing in the gig economy. Fortunately, a friend of mine had heard about an app called Moonlighting and encouraged my to take a look. Once I saw how simple & straight forward it was, I dove right in!
Moonlighting is for everyone; from the young entrepreneur to the retiree not ready to retire, the mobile & web platform is the fastest way to post your talents and start making money or find and hire someone to help you with your job or ‘to-do’ list needs. Once I signed up, I was on my way to becoming my own boss. I began using my house as an income source through AirBNB, my car through the booming sharing economy via ride-share, and my skills as a freelance consultant & photographer through Moonlighting. The Moonlighting mission, to help people earn more money doing what they love and support them in their self-employing careers, aligned perfectly with my foray into the freelancing world.
This shift in my life has freed me up to pursue other interests, including travel, blogging, and creative writing, as well as more time to improve my coaching & photography skills. I don’t plan on ever going back to the “regular” life I once lived; It’s truly been a life-changing decision and I’m thankful for the free resources Moonlighting could provide to aid in my transition into the gig economy.
